Opening/Welcome by both FLC and CTC

Hans Kohler [Bio], Federal Laboratory Consortium for Technology Transfer (FLC) Northeast Regional Coordinator, and Don McAlister [Bio], Deputy Director of NASA's Northeast Regional Technology Transfer Center, provided an overview of the missions of the FLC and the CTC.

Paul Mexcur [Bio], NASA SBIR Program Office explained the differences between the Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) and the Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs offered by the SBA.

Joe Henebury [Bio], Department of Transportation SBIR Program Director, provided an overview of SBIR/STTR programs across different government agencies.

Carlo DeLuca [Bio], CEO, Delsys Corp and Mark Druy [Bio], Ph.D., Technology Transition Manager, Physical Sciences provided insight into their successes working through the SBIR/STTR programs.

Jesse Erlich [Bio], of Perkins, Smith & Cohen, presented on a contractor's patent rights when working with government intellectual property.

How to Write a Winning SBIR/STTR Proposal

Roger Cohen [Bio], president of Cohen International, provided instructions and tips on how to develop a successful strategy and write a winning proposal, and explain the differences between the SBIR and STTR programs. The presentation focused on developing a winning abstract, as well as provided an introduction to cost proposals.

From Idea to Entrepreneur - Secrets of Developing a Winning Business Plan That Attracts Investment

Roger Cohen [Bio], president of Cohen International, taught entrepreneurs how to develop a business plan that communicates both the technical and commercial aspects of their new venture. Participants received a copy of "Cohen's Easy Business Plan," an 11-step format to writing a 10-page business plan.

State Support to Small Businesses

Bob Kispert [Bio], Director of Federal Programs for the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MTC), presented information on how MTC, the state's development agency for renewable energy and the innovation economy, works with cutting-edge companies to create new jobs and stimulate economic activities throughout Massachusetts. Also, Dan Lilly [Bio], Procurement Specialist for the Massachusetts Small Business Development Center (MSBDC) Procurement Technical Assistance Center, presented information on how MSBDC assists MA business with competing for Federal, state and local govt. contracts.

Funding Bridges Between Phase 1 and 2 Awards and Also Between Phase 2 and 3 Awards

Paul Mexcur [Bio], NASA SBIR Program Office; Bob Creeden [Bio], Vice-President, Derby Group; and John Rainey [Bio], Hi-Tech Business Program Manager, Clark SBDC provided meeting attendees with information on funding bridges and outline financing options.

Regional laboratories presented information about what is happening at their laboratory relative to SBIR programs.
